Hello Friend! ๐ One of the very first skills that you must learn about and be able to master when officially starting ALGEBRA is a little something called “Order of Operations” (which is the exact order of how to solve an algebraic math problem and/or equation).
Another very common, and might I add very popular, term for this is called… P.E.M.D.A.S.! What does P.E.M.D.A.S. stand for exactly? I’m glad you asked! Well, it stands for “Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally!”
(LOL! Okay, that is just the famous catch-phrase that EVERYONE in the math world knows and uses to help them remember all of the steps when it comes to “Order of Operations” in order to accurately solve any algebraic math problem). Here is what P.E.M.D.A.S. actually stands for…
- P: parenthesis
- E: exponenT
- M: multiplication
- –or–
- D: division
- A: additioN
- –or–
- S: subtraction
IMPORTANT:
Always solve algebraic equation problems from left to right! If there are any Radicals included in the equation, then it is solved while you are also solving for any Exponents – which ever comes first reading it from left to right! And don’t forget, it’s Multiplication or Division, and then Addition or Subtraction – which ever comes first for each reading it from left to right!
Alright, now you know the very basics about P.E.M.D.A.S.! Congrats! ๐
